Red Sea Maritime Security

The Red Sea is a strategically important waterway that serves as a vital link between Europe, Africa, and Asia. Under threats from the Houthi rebels, during the past month, Skytek saw two ships hijacked, five hit by missile or drone attacks, several boarding attempts directed initially to ships linked to Israel ownership, and then ships calling at Israel ports and becoming seemingly more indiscriminate against merchant shipping transiting the Bab El Mandab Strait.

Hijacked vessel: GALAXY LEADER

The Galaxy Leader is a 5,110 CEU capacity Vehicle Carrier built in 2002 with a deadweight tonnage (DWT) of 17,127. It is registered under the Bahamas flag, classified by the Det Norske Veritas (DNV), and insured by the West of England P&I. The vessel is owned by Galaxy Maritime Ltd Isle of Man, group owned by Ray Car Carriers Ltd, and operated by Nyk Line.
Skytek notes that the estimated track of the Galaxy Leader passed near the Iranian flag ship Saviz – IMO: 9167253 in the early morning of November 19th, and a few hours after the vessel was approached by an MI8 helicopter deploying Houthis militia which took over the vessel at about 1105UTC on November 19th.

Report on Lahaina town properties affected by wildfires, Maui

In early August 2023, a series of wildfires broke out in the U.S. state of Hawaii, predominantly on the island of Maui. The wind-driven fires prompted evacuations, caused widespread damage, and killed at least 96 people in the town of Lāhainā, at least 1,000 people remain missing. The proliferation of the wildfires was attributed to dry, gusty conditions created by a strong high-pressure area north of Hawaii and Hurricane Dora to the south.
