Hurricane Milton

A Catastrophic Convergence: Milton's Landing on Florida after Helene's Wrath

Less than two weeks after Hurricane Helene caused significant destruction in the Southeast, Tropical Storm Milton has quickly formed in the Gulf of Mexico and is barrelling towards Tampa, Florida where it is forecasted to land as a Category 4 Hurricane.

The majority of offshore assets are located to the north; however, this path places a cluster of holiday resorts and hotels directly in the line of hurricane-force winds, intense rainfall, and storm surges. Additionally, there are 11 cruise ships valued at $2.7 billion within the hurricane’s cone, with three currently departing to evade the storm.

Tampa boasts over 100 hotels rated 4 stars and above, with an aggregated value exceeding $5 billion. However, a significant percentage of these hotels have already been impacted by the flood surge and heavy rains from Hurricane Helene. Current estimates suggest that approximately 30% to 40% of these properties are facing damage.

Skytek utilises advanced analytics to track the storm’s progression and assess the concentration of marine, offshore, and property assets within the projected path. We continuously update the exposure aggregation based on the hurricane’s forecasted trajectory. The insights derived from analysing the hurricane’s impact will be accessible on the platform shortly after landfall, providing critical information for decision-making and risk assessment.
